Quick question to blogging experts of Macnn.

How many of you have the automatic comments turned off. In other words you need to approve all the comments unless they're from trusted individuals. I found early on by allowing unapproved comments, I was getting a lot of spam.

Second question, how many of you have multiple blogs? I was thinking of this a while back. Being the geek that I am, I'm interested in technology and such but my blog, http://www.theologynow.net is focused on Christian living and various theology concepts. Since I'm writing about Christian topics, I tend not to include subject matter outside of that intended purpose though I have in the past let one or two slip through A second blog for other topics and subject matter would seem like a natural move however the work required to maintain two blogs would outweigh the benefit IMO. I am curious to know if others maintain multiple blogs and why.

Are you using WordPress? If so, you can capture a lot of spam by enabling the Akismet plug-in (this is included by not enabled by default). You probably should leave moderation on though.

I have all sorts of blogs, although I don't maintain the content for them. You can do this, but if you are feeling unsure about this you might want to explore blog categories as a means to break up a single blog into sections.

I use Wordpress for my regular and photography blogs. Spam has never slipped through due to Akismet. I second besson's suggestion.

I moderate every comment, and I'm glad I do. I've had some pretty nasty comments come in every few weeks (usually something poorly written and unnecessarily brutal).

Having two blogs was a necessity for me. Clients who want to see nothing but my photography are directed to my photography blog, and aren't subjected to the ADD nature of my personal blog. For your purposes, I don't see why you can't just go with one blog. Some of my favorite blogs that I've subscribed to are ones that cover a WIIIIIDE range of interests.

How much work can it possibly be?

I think you’d be better off with separate blogs for the Christian and non-Christian subjects, as your particular religious affiliation will likely put off atheists, pagans, and others who like the general interest or tech blogs they read untainted by this kind of thing.
