Hidden Van Gogh revealed in color by scientists - Yahoo! News
"AMSTERDAM (Reuters Life!) - Scientists have made a colored view of an early rejected painting underneath Vincent van Gogh's 'Patch of Grass' painting, using advanced X-ray techniques, a Dutch university said on Wednesday."

That is very interesting. I'm curious what other paintings will reveal.

That is just plain cool. A new Van Gogh painting discovered more than a century after his death. I wonder if they're going to do replicas of the rejected portrait.

Very cool, yes.

HOWEVER...I wonder how ol' Vincent would feel about this? There's a reason he rejected these paintings, after all. It's most likely that we're simply going to be finding some of his mediocre work.

It is interesting to think that one of his famous works is little more than something he painted to cover up a "screw up."

I don't think he cares too much - he's dead.

I don't think that's necessarily the case. It seems quite probable to me that it was more like, "Well, I want to paint this thing, but I don't have another canvas here. I don't love this picture too much — I'll paint over it."

It's a clue to some sort of 1,000 year old scandal involving the catholic church!

It happened quite often.

Impressionist painters were very poor especially Van Gogh. So they would take paintings that did not work too well in their mind; spread a new coat of paint as a base then make a new painting. I would be surprise if the painting they discover would be this extraordinary.

I don't know about Van Gogh, but I think it's pretty cool that they've found these hidden paintings.

Yea, but I bet even some of his mediocre work is better than thousands of other artists' works.

No, he's just more famous. Millions of artists over the world are far more impressive than many of the most famous artists of all time.

Van Gogh has his moments, though, unlike most.
