Wow!

The Best Bike Locks for Every Type of Cyclist -- New York Magazine
"Nice weather, new bike lanes, David Byrne–designed racks being installed around the city; it’s a golden time for biking. However, an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 bikes are stolen in New York annually. While we wait for cool European gear like the foldable Bordo lock and the steel Axa bracket to arrive, here are the best ways to keep your ride safe."

yes, and 800.000 bicycles are stolen every year in the Netherlands. We store our precious bicycles inside, or we ride really worthless bicycles that no-one cares about. There are cities like Maastricht where parking your bike on the streets is illegal, they offer free underground storage instead. For the rest..there is no lock that is 100% safe. It will delay the inevitable theft a few minutes at most.

Yep that's my lock, wear around my waist ( I hardly notice it ) when biking and I'm able to lock both wheels and the frame to the average city pole/bike stand. I haven't had a bike stolen in years - and that was a u-lock.

I've seen the Bordo lock around town actually. Not sure what to make of it.

I have an el-cheapo bike with an el-cheapo combination lock that I rarely have to use. In fact, the other week I realised I'd forgotten the combination and it took me 2 minutes to crack it myself.

Mind you, my bike is cheaper than some of those expensive locks. If I had a $700 bike I probably wouldn't be leaving it anywhere.
