I'll have to think on this one. Many instances to choose from.

How about you?

Going 145 mph in a Dodge Stealth on I-495.

Going 105 mph on a back-road with a Ford Explorer. (with the recalled Firestone tires)

Putting Icy Hot on my balls on a dare.

Last december I was on a short road trip with some friends. We were dangerously low on gas so we pulled over to fill up. I was wearing a tee-shirt because I had forgotten my coat. (STUPID THING 1). Anywho, I got out to pump my gas, swiped my card and went through the motions. It was about 10 degrees out and windy, so I immediately jumped in the car to let the gas pump. A few minutes go by and I see the pump has stopped, so I put the pump back, screw on the cap and we take off down the road. We get about 5 miles and the car starts lurching and acting funny. I look at the gas meter and it is on E. Even lower than before!?!?

Turns out I hadn't put a drop of gas into the car. For one reason or another it never pumped. I probably failed to hit a button or something. We did make it to a gas station before getting stranded on the side of the road.

Now, ultimately, this isn't that stupid, but man did I feel like a complete horses ass when it happened. It didn't help that I was in a car with a bunch of my rowdy friends.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

"What HAVEN'T I done that was stupid?", that should be the question....

Latest: sold a family member an expensive camera lens w/polarized filter and handed it over to him with the promise that I'd be paid $600 in a week. Eight months later and i have received three checks (over a four month period) for $100 and told to take the rest out on a suit he bought for me so I could be in his wedding. The suit cost $250 (?!??!?), he said "we're even right?" I replied, "no, you still owe me $50". That was a couple months ago. Still no $50.

I will NEVER. EVER. EVER. sell or do business with a family member again.

Family members and friends, both the same.

Don't do business or loan money if you're not willing to give it as a gift.

The unfortunate truth...

Attempting to make a seemingly mild jump on a Honda XR-100 when I young. My legs have never been the same.

Accidentally not hitting the "End Call" button while leaving a message on my parents' answering machine while I was with friends. To make things worse, this was during my psychotic high schooler phase.

5 days after I got my license, I got in my first and only "real" car accident. A few seconds after I hit the guy's truck, I jumped out of the car without realizing I hadn't put it in park, and hit him again.

Yup, doing business with friends of family is a very tricky business. That's why my dad and his brothers don't talk anymore. They wish each other happy birthday by e-mails and stuff like that (used to be fax). It's our own personal Cold War.

I'm very wary of doing `business' and turtle's advice is right on (at least with family).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Just yesterday I let a builder looking at some damp in our house use a very expensive meat fork to pull up the corner on some carpet. My wife will be glad to tell you how stupid I am.

I understand the loaning money to friends and family and considering it a gift philosophy, I endorse that heartily.

The thing that burned me was that my cousin kept buying other lenses, a new car, an iPhone... you get the idea. He simply saw me as very easy going understanding, patient person, and took advantage of that. Of all the family members, we had the best relationship, and got together outside of family gatherings the most. Now that relationship is strained as I was forced to ask to be paid, and didn't receive payment as agreed.

Now I hold the same attitude about selling to friends and relatives as loaning money. Consider it a gift. Don't sell it to them if you won't give it to them.

Regarding cars, I will never, ever, ever, sell or give a car to a friend or relative. I don't even tell people I am getting ready to switch cars until I have done the deed. My dad once gave my uncle a very beatup, on it's last legs, car. Fulling telling him all of it's faults. Well, after a year of the car operating trouble free, the water pump gave out, which was one of the things that needed to be replaced, and my uncle accused my dad of giving him a worthless car. Never mind that fact that he drove the car trouble free for a whole year and it was given to him. GIVEN TO HIM!!!

Got super high on psychotic drugs and decided to skinny dip in the Gulf of Mexico at 3 in the morning. Started swimming out and got totally disoriented. Couldn't figure out where I was and kept swimming away from the shore. Luckily my brother wasn't as high as I and was able to swim out and save me. If he weren't there I most surely would have drowned. (That should have been the last time I took drugs, but unfortunately it wasn't).

My worst brush with stupidity also involved substance abuse. Many years ago I consumed too much champagne and scotch at a post wedding reception party. I don't remember driving the 14 miles I drove home. I never over did alcohol again.

I hope I didn't hurt anyone.

I used to drive home drunk after parties. (maybe happened 5 times.)

I got drunk the night before my wedding.

I once put 20 bucks down on the Packers (with Favre) to win the Super Bowl (post Mike Holmgren).

Fell asleep at the wheel and nailed a tree at 50 MPH.

Recently dropped my remote in a glass of water.

Spent 1000 dollars on a new(er) Mac when my G4 pretty much worked fine for me.

I enjoy the hell out of it, but for someone trying to save money it could be considered stupid.

Not to mention the fact it probably needs a new power supply.

I once worked a 14 hr shift and at the end of the day some lady came in with an iPod. I diagnosed it with a broken wheel, but in the end it was just on hold.

This is not necessarily the case... not everyone want's to dual boot, and if his G4 was fine for reading e-mails and typing documents (Office 2004 would probably be faster anyway than on an Intel Mac). Depends on the usage.

Clarify before you comment, capi-tan.

I would never say that upgrading ones computer would be "stupid" - maybe have been a superfluous purchase, though.

Dude, stick to stuff you know about. Along with conversing with sek fairly regularly, there's a whole thread dedicated to his switch over which included his use of the dual-boot for watching Netflix online. So I know what I was talking about, unlike you.

I'm sure there is someone in your family you can give it to . . . no strings attached and all that.

I somehow convinced myself that "sleeping in the same bed with this girl, who is not my girlfriend, is okay as long as we don't do anything. And having a few glasses of wine beforehand won't impair anyone's judgment at all."
