I added a Peugeot 405 Mi16 to my temporary car collection. The Alfa GT and the Peugeot both have 2 liter twincam engines but thats about where the similarities end. I think it's a wonderful experience to have both GTJ and Mi16 at the same time, it's as different as it can get but both really enjoyable. they are absolutely my dreamcars.
i think the GTJ has the edge, as it's 18 years older. When i stationary rev the Alfa's 2.0 engine it also seems far stronger because the mi16 is just a high rev with a digital fuel management. Properly adjusted Weber carbs are beautiful.

The Peugeot isn’t my cup of tea but I love the GT!
It would make for a great “casual classic car rally” car, especially with that engine. Bet it’s a blast to drive! When was it built and — if you don’t mind — what did you pay for it?

I’m currently rebuilding a 1953 Salmson 2300S (happens to have a DOHC engine too, quite rare considering it’s age) for the 1000 with my father and wouldn’t mind having my own (affordable) project on the side. Spares are an absolute nightmare with the Salmson which will of course also affect the driving style.

The GTJ is very fast too, it could top 200 km/h with the 2000 gearbox (in the 60's that was extra-ordinary), it now has a 1300 with a short 5 that accellerates faster. But I can assure you it feels like sitting on a hellmachine, both hands on the steeringwheel are a necessity to get the needle over 200
The engine is all aluminium, the Mi16's engine is made of magnesium.

The price of "a" GTJ in my condition would be about 5000€, if it's in absolute mintcondition it reaches 50.000€ (250.000 for a genuine GTA) but then it has become a show car, and i like to drive it i think the GTJ and GTV bertone is the best classic under 30.000€ All parts are remanufactured so it's not too expensive to maintain. and they sound great!

The term Twin Cam doesn't tell the exact location of camshafts, but it is mostly used to describe DOHC structure.
Double overhead camshafts are not required in order to have multiple inlet or exhaust valves, but are necessary for more than two valves that are directly actuated (though still usually via tappets). Not all DOHC engines are multivalve engines — DOHC was common in two valve per cylinder heads for decades before multivalve heads appeared. Today, however, DOHC is synonymous with multi-valve heads since almost all DOHC engines have between three and five valves per cylinder.

OK, own up - who stole the other half of that engine?

They both look like very fun drives. I wouldn't mind trying them out myself.
