thanks to advertising I now have plenty more of what Nanci Griffith memorablly described as "unnecessary plastic items", as well as some more nicer stuff that my brain didn't realise it wanted until they told me about it.
But I think the golden age of advertising is past us (the Gates/Seinfeld stuff excepted obviously).
Has anyone here concretely bought an item soley on the basis of seeing an ad, and what ads do you remember with unbridled fondness.
I liked the funny martian robots advertising smash, they made me smile as a kid even though the product tasted like poison coated cotton wool.
