More 'Chocolate' Candy Bars Now Include Vegetable Oils Instead of Pricey Cocoa Butter

I just found out and I am never buying anything "made with chocolate" ever again. Why can't they just raise the price?

It's worse than the 1.75-quart ice-cream issue!

I read this on msnbc
At least in the US they cannot legally call it milk chocolate. That doesn't make it right how ever.

I hate the idea of corporate greed going so far that they now replace cocoa butter with vegetable oil

I'm tempted to complain to Hershey but I doubt it will have any impact. I'm a huge chocoholic

Why am I not surprised... Is nothing sacred anymore?

Somewhat related, I stopped seeing pure cocoa butter lotion in stores a few years ago - now it's a blend of sorts.
That stuff was great for tanning and smelling like candy.

Can't find the reference atm, but I'm sure that a couple of years ago, the eurocrats noticed this usage and told companies like Cadbury's and Nestle that they couldn't call loads of their products chocolate.

Its a bit like prepared meals, they (companies) can call it beef because what they put in the meal comes from a cow, but you really don't want to know what part of the cow they put into the meal.

It brings up a question which everyone knows the answer, but not everyone likes.

Why can't they sell more expensive versions with real chocolate (or a coke with real sugar)?

I agree. But I also think the crap flavored varieties should have lower prices now, but I imagine that would cut into profit forecast models.

Because the World is mostly populated by cheap little chavs and the monkeys who run these companies will always go for the lowest common denominator.

Right. And it's these bastards that stopped making Crystal Pepsi when it was turning a profit but 'enough' of one.

Damn them all to hell.

"They" do. In fact, "they" have for a long, long time. It's just that "they" aren't Hershey's, or KraftJacobsSuchard, or Nestlé.

There's some GREAT chocolate out there, and to be honest, if you thought Hershey's was it, then the vegetable oil in there is a FAR smaller deal than you make it out to be.

Last month the 1.75-quart cartons dropped to 1.5, at least around my area. Also they stopped being on sale all the time.

I didn't and seriously, what is up with everyone taking pot-shots at everyone the past few days? Is everyone else quitting smoking with Calverson?

It depends on the country you live in. Great chocolate isn't readily available at the corner store in most towns in the US.
Honestly I haven't had anything from Hershey's in years. My most recent chocolate was from Hokkaido (extra dark).

The man speaks truth. Even without going to weird Dutch chocolate makers, there's much better chocolate out there than what most people eat.

While Dakar and his offspring can no doubt list many defaults of the French, the local chocolatier is a fine institution.

You can stock up right before the Jewish holiday Passover when Coke is made with real sugar. Just look for a differently colored cap and some indication it is kosher for passover.

Make the switch, all the cool kids are drinking it: http://forums.macnn.com/89/macnn-lou...epsi-vote-now/

BTW: Go to any "real" Mexican restaurant, the kind that's a little hole in the wall in a Mexican neighborhood, and you can get Coke made with cane sugar. Personally, I prefer HFCS in my Coke.

I think Costco has cane sugar Coke as well.

OT: Most of this doesn't really bother me. I'd read a few months ago that Hershey's had to change labeling something and call it "Chocolate food". I haven't had Hershey's anything in a LONG time. Hershey's is the Walmart* of the candy world.

I used to prefer Pepsi over Coke until I started drinking it with rum. Now I get ticked when I ask for a rum and Coke and the bartender has the nerve to give me a rum and Pepsi.

What kind of real bar has Pepsi instead of Coke? Seriously!

It's like Milk and Cookies. But instead of milk, you are offered white colored pee.
