One of the great, if not greatest, actors of all time, and a philanthropist of the highest order as well.
I just ordered The Hustler on DVD a couple days ago. I'm excited to see it again.

That's too bad. He was one of the greatest. I recommend Hud as one of his best roles and performances.

My favorite Paul Newman anecdote comes from what I believe was a 60 minutes interview. For those of you who don't know, Newman and Robert Redford are(were) great friends, having met and done a few roles together (The Sting, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid). Newman, I believe, started a tradition of pranking each other, which culminated with a gift for what I believe was a milestone birthday for Rpbert Redford. He had a Porsche delivered to Redford's house and left in the driveway. However when Redford came home, what he discovered was a busted up, unsuable Porsche. Not to be out-done, he had the Porsche compressed into a small cube, and with the help of a friend, dragged it into Newman's home one day while he was away, doing a considerable amount of damage to his flooring, Redford noted (it left a nice indentation where it was left to sit).
Newman never said a word, never acknowledged that anything happened. Which, Redford notes, essentially means he won.

Let's not forget his cigar-chewing turn as the villain in "The Hudsucker Proxy." Paul Newman as a baddie -- and sooo good at it.
Damn, there goes a good'un.

This is almost like that moment when you found out that older guy you had always idolized was actually a lamer who just couldn't impress anyone his own age so had to hang out with your crowd…
You hurt me, Ice. You hurt me real bad.

I don't mean to hurt you. I'm 32 years old. I was 10 years old when The Color of Money came out(1986). I was probably 12 or so before I saw it for the first time. My first post in this thread is me gushing about Paul Newman. I was a 12 year old who though Paul Newman was a badass.
I, like other 12 year olds at the time, thought Cruise was a cool dude. Be cool, have chicks, learn pool from a Pro.. also maybe fly a fighter jet, Top Gun. Risky Business? Yea, that too. It wasn't until many years later that I realized Tom Cruise was much shorter than me and a crazy religious guy.
A man named Dragon lived down the street, he was a war vet and a badass dude all-around. He taught me just about everything I know now regarding billiards, including hustling. I do it today when I'm bored at a bar.
All the while I was also watching Paul Newman movies, including The Hustler. I like Paul Newman and his movies A LOT, even though he's 50 years older than me.
Did you just say I'm almost like a lamer who couldn't impress anyone my own age so I had to hang with younger people? Dude.
Are you still hurt? WALK IT OFF.
I hang out with younger females because they're hot and awesome and have tight skin. Don't hate.
