Star Wars Clone Confusion

I think it's going to be tough distinguishing between the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003). Couldn't Lucasfilm come up with something a little more distinctive? Like maybe Star Wars: Interregnum or something? Isn't this a failure of branding for usually one of the best marketed pop-culture phenomena out there?
Also, I think it's too bad that while Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu) and Christopher Lee (Count Dooku) were able to lend their voices to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie (yet another point of potential confusion), they'll be using stand-ins for the TV show, albeit very good ones.

I don't think it's too hard. Tartakovsky's Clone Wars is pretty different then Filoni's. Tartakovsky's style of animation is very different then Filoni's as well. Keep in mind that the 2003 Clone Wars takes place over a very short period of time, only two days for each season. The Clone Wars that we'll see tonight will take place over nearly the entirety of the Clone Wars. I would be less worried about both cartoons stepping on each others feet then the 2008 Clone Wars stepping on the Expanded Universe's feet.
I guess if you aren't a dedicated fan it could be hard, but TCW is built for 1) a younger audience, like every Star Wars film 2) the Star Wars faithful. I'm not saying that if you're not a kid you won't understand it, but if you've been around since the originals were in the theater, don't expect to be transported back to that day in 1977 when the phrase "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" was a very odd way to start a movie.

Well, it's clear that you and I know the difference; nevertheless, they could have chosen a more distinctive name for the TV series. And it's going to cause confusion in everyday conversation, esp. with non-hardcore fans.
The premiere is in less than an hour! I'm excited.
I think "a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far way" was so unbelievably cool. As an eight-year-old watching that on the big screen for the first time, I was instantly hooked.
Why no crawl for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie this summer? That bummed me out. And the voiceover introduction was really cheesy IMO.
And while I'm sure to enjoy this new series on Cartoon Network, I can't escape the feeling that the whole thing is a like, um, Forced *rimshot*. They are clearly trying cram artificially extend a story that has already been overtold.

I think its confusing and overdone. Two cartoon series that deal with the clone wars, its overkill for me. I'm a star wars fan but I'd rather see something new instead of a rehash of the clone wars

Maflynn, you just said in The Force Unleashed thread that you weren't a Star Wars fan.
I liked the lack of a crawl in The Clone Wars. I thought it ejected you right into the action, instead of slowly building it up over the first 30 minutes of the film (except for Episode III).
I agree that they could have chosen a better name. Oh well. I just refer to the first Clone Wars as the microseries generally.
I'm very excited for it. Sadly my cable is all messed up, so I have to wait until 10pm here to watch it. Good thing it's on iTunes ( link).
Oh, BTW, I actually prefer the other Count Dooku voice instead of Christopher Lee's. I think the alternative voice reflects the personality of Count Dooku better.

I've already detected a possible continuity error in S01E02, "Rising Malevolence". Palpatine addresses Anakin as "Master Skywalker," yet the script of Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith clearly states that the Jedi Council refuses to make Skywalker a Master, and that's after the time period of the present show. Oops.
Or maybe it's an intentional misstatement to tantalize him with the allure of Dark Side power? Nah, I doubt it. They messed up.

Interesting point of view. You're right, the alternate really is superb.

Throughout the Star Wars universe Padawans and Jedi Knights are called "Master" fairly often. Recall in Episode II when queen Jamilla refers to Anakin as "master" and then Padmé shoots him down because Anakin isn't a knight yet.

Actually that line was spoken by (Nubian Governor) Sio Bibble: "What is your suggestion, Master Jedi?" He obviously not as familiar with Jedi ranking and politics as Chancellor Palpatine is. I doubt it would be a honest mistake on the Chancellor's part. Besides, that quote reinforces (rather than weakens) my point that the title of "Master" carries a specific formal meaning.

I'm a big fan of the TV show. I loved seeing Yoda return to his Episode V attitude.
