And it doesn't work yet. Looks like it may be added tomorrow, since the article quotes from the future.

Does anyone know why this would only work on Intel machines?

Not sure. Silverlight works on PPC machines as well.

Just got off the phone with Netflix. It is going to be rolled out to everyone at the end of next week. Also, not all the videos are encoded in Silverlight yet, but they should be done soon.
If you cannot wait until next week, go to www.netflix.com/silverlightoptin to activate the ability to watch movies via OS X.

FYI, I tried it, and over the same internet connection, the Silverlight video was significantly better than the old solution on Windows (which I ran through VMware on my Mac Pro).

Didn't work for me, and the quality was only 'basic.'
Still is a cool step in the right direction, but I'll stick with VMware for now.

Looked good for me, a little better than hulu. But nothing I want to watch.

Clarification: playing the Silverlight movies on my 2.1GHz MacBook was superior to playing the old-style video on VMware 2.0 on my 2.8GHz Mac Pro.

Are you using Safari?
It works on my machine now but it won't go above 'basic' for video quality. At the same time IE6 shows 'high' quality in Fusion.

Yes, on Safari. I don't remember what quality setting it reported, but it was not basic. (That Netflix account just got cancelled, so I can't go back to re-test.)
