So, I'm selling my old MBP on craigslist since I now own a new one.
Other then the clearly fraudulent offers (offering > $$ then the asking price etc) I get offers to buy my laptop but they're out of state. They're willing to use paypal, but something doesn't appear quite right. Why would they pay shipping and paypal for a computer in my state when there's plenty of others in theirs.
I'm wondering if I'm being overly paranoid.
I'm going the craigslist way because A. its cash and B. I don't pay the ebay fees.
any advice regarding selling stuff on craigslist?

Unless you need to sell it immediately or live in a fairly rural area, I wouldn't bother at all with out of state offers. You'll get no compensation from craigslist if you're scammed.

I'm in no hurry and my gut reaction to out of state sales on craigslist is to avoid them. I already have one person offering me 300 dollars over my asking price as he needs a quick sale to send the laptop overseas to his son. I'm sure he'll pay with an unendorsed third party Nigerian check

I personally refuse to make out-of-area Craigslist deals. I've had WAY too many bogus offers.

Cash and pickup in person.
Otherwise, you might as well sell it on eBay.

Agreed, I just edited my classified because I'm getting inundated with people who want to send me personal checks, or do an out of state, or out of country sale.

I completely agree with that. I've sold things on Craigslist and eBay. Each have their plus and minuses because neither are perfect selling places. Craigslist has no seller protection so I only deal locally, in person, and cash. If they aren't willing to do that then they usually are scammers.
They also come up with a lot of ridiculous stories and excuses to make you sell to them. Even if they are legit buyers it's just easier to deal locally because Craigslist has no tools to deal with problems if they come up. You are on your own with Craigslist.
IMO eBay is usually more convenient to sell items but they do charge a service fee, which can be worthwhile if you are selling a lot of items at the same time or don't have the time to do the constant back and forth contacting to sell the item.

Email me immediately so that we can proceed because I'll be Leaving town soon. I'm willing to pay as soon as possible to enable it get to her.
Let me hear from you as soon as possible.
