Slamball. WTF?

So I turn on CBS this afternoon and there is this bizarre game playing called slamball. Seems to be some sort of championship game and CBS is covering it... so it must be legit, right?
It's looks like basketball on drugs with trampolines and goal tenders and full contact thrown in. Kind of fun, kind of stupid.
Anyway, I'd never heard of it until today. Is this some goofy thing cobbled together by CBS to make a show, or is this an up and coming sport that I've just missed?
