When did the Apple Updates search become useless?

It used to show relevant results when I wanted to download installer packages for use with ARD. Now when I search it comes up with crap for Mac OS 9 and Warranty information. This is after I restrict the search to Downloads only.
Is there a checkbox I'm missing? Or did Apple mess up their search engine?

Do you mean on the Apple website? Yeah, that costs time and nerves. I tried to get find certain OSX driver updates and just gave up.
Now within the programs it depends. The OSX search itself is pretty reliable, the god-awful Quicktime-I'm searching-a-codec-thing however...

The Apple Updates website, yes. It's absolutely useless now.

Yeah I noticed the same thing as well...was trying to find a manual for my older computer, and it took me forever to do what should have been a simple task. Very painful and annoying.

I typed in a search for 10.4.11 updater. pretty specific, but no five pages of results in and no updater.
I'm sure search used to work, but it sucks hard now for sure!

OK, Apple reads MacNN and just fixed it?
I swear, it's been useless for at least a few months. Now it seems to be working.

If you go to www.apple.com/support/downloads the search becomes useless. If you use the Search box after you've clicked on the "Downloads" buttons from the Support area, it works.

Completely useless. My brother, an almost Mac convert, just swore off Apple products because their support downloads suck so bad.

He was looking for support downloads before he switched?
And to agree with Doofy; searching using the main search bar seems to work fine.

And it shows up in software update...
edit: And what are you talking about? Safari, iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour for Windows? It's not like a windows user would be out looking for a 10.4.11 combo update...

No, no, no. WTF are you talking about? Or more rightly, who was talking about 10.4.11? Someone else was, not me, you, or the guy you originally responded to.
Wouldn't it make sense for a windows user to try out Apple software before switching? Maybe they don't want to use Software Update, but download individual updates themselves. They'd be right to not trust it. Apple is not a good windows citizen.
