Looks like Roland Emmerich keeps trying to out disaster himself. I'm looking forward to this one. This teaser trailer sort of recreates the best scene from "The Day After Tomorrow."
Oh, and I guess they are smart not waiting until 2012 to release this flick. It is slated to be released next year.

Now that looks good. At least it isn't coming out in 2012. That'd be a wait.

My lord how many times can we see natural disasters or aliens destroying landmarks and still get freaked out by it. Is this all the guy knows how to do?

I saw a website that references title waves, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc, etc. I wonder if there is any way a title wave could top the himalayas? An astroid maybe?

A close flyby from another object (like a rogue planet) would cause huge tides. Possibly big enough to pull the ocean over a continent that faced the flyby. The camera never tilted up, so we didn't see if there was anything visible.
If a flyby dropped the Moon into a lower orbit with close approaches, then brief huge tides would become a permanent fixture - at least permanent on a human time scale.

2012 is a Mayan calendar apocalypse thing. In modern myth it is also closely associated with the supposedly lost planet X/Nibiru, so I guess the tides would be caused by the close proximity of this planet.

I don't know that 7,200m tides are possible; we'd be talking about most of the water in the oceans being displaced into the Himalayas. The 2012 prediction is connected with the belief in a periodic planet wide cataclysm, the last such cataclysm possibly being the flood in the Bible. So, rather than astronomical reasons, the movie might take a 40-days-and-40-nights approach.

I think that's a bit premature... we only have a small clip to go by. Do you mean the whole earth destruction thing in general?

I was starting to say keep religion in the PL, but what if the movie actually uses God to do all this. Wouldn't that be cool.

Aren't teaser trailers very different thant he actual movie (at least sometimes)?
Anyway, I've always liked the post-apocalyptic genre. I think it goes back to The Road Warrior and Red Dawn for me. Imagining myself as one of the few who have survived. Wolverines!!!

It was a fun movie, but I had trouble getting past the silliness of the concept that Soviet soldiers could keep any kind of control over Americans, especially in rural areas.

It was hokey in places, but still foundational for many folks our age (40ish). We watched it the other night on TNT I think.

Wow...this trailer REALLY made me roll my eyes.
But at the end..."Google: 2012." Are they freakin' kidding me? They're now telling the viewer to "Google: 2012?"
Also...I Googled 2012.

I mean using the 2012 idea, itself. Every tard on the intarwebs knows about Planet X/Nibiru, is it really necessary for Emmental to make one of his cheeseploitation flicks about it?

Wow, now it looks like a great movie. I especially liked the ending of the clip where the John F. Kennedy takes it in the pooper. That was my first ship and it was a pile of crap. It's already decommed, but aside from that it looks like a great movie.

And: did that trailer start by calling the Mayans "mankind's earliest civilization"? Or was that a reference to some other prophecy? 'Cause that would suck, if it did that.

AND: has anyone watched Independence Day lately? Simply shocking. Talk about a film that didn't age well. It's truly horrendous. Last week Transformers, Independence Day and The Island were on TV so I caught a bit of all of them. Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible movies. Ugh.
