Yeah, I won't either.

Some amazing photos of a terrible thing. The one of the firefighter covered in fire retardant is incredible.

Because some houses are burned while others are not.

Or the fact that the houses that burned had giant swimming pools fulls of water in their back yards (which no one in the burning houses thought to use to fight the fire)?
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

There's water in some of the driveways and most of the burned houses, so someone did try some firefighting.

What I find unbelieveable is how close some trees were that survived. I'd expect them to go up like matches.

Hammer + Nail + Head

Look how close those trees are. I know sweet FA about trees but don't trees burn? Especially next to houses that are burning?

A lot of those houses are burning from embers landing on them. You can tell because a lot of the grass/trees/etc. around them haven't caught on fire.

So, it's pretty much luck of the draw as to what ends up burning and what doesn't, until/unless the actual blaze arrives.

exactly. the fire jumps from place to place. sometimes only the underbrush burns and the trees directly above them (even if dry) remain. i saw this repeatedly while one of the fires was still going on. got a few pictures even (altho nothing like what those photographers captured).
