Why do left handed people always wear their watches on the wrong hand? I've been left handed for a LONG time and have worn my watch on my right wrist for over 30 years and I just realized that I have no idea why. Now I'm wondering what other things I do backwards without knowing why. Pounding a nail in with my left hand makes sense, since I'm left handed and all but not the watch thing. Does anyone else have any other examples or answers?

Not everyone is 100% one way or the other. I write right-handed, but golf, batting baseball, and guitar all feel more natural left-handed. If I wore a watch it'd be on my left wrist. I don't know if that's right or wrong (aka left).

It seems natural to me that we wear our watches on the opposite wrist from the one we favor. That way the watch doesn't interfere with writing, etc.. Just my $.02USD

I'm right handed. When I wore a watch, wearing it on my right hand would be uncomfortable when writing (when I didn't much writing). When I wore digital watches, if I wore them on my right hand I'd have to interact with it using my left hand, which would be awkward. Of course, now I just wear my watch in my pocket (cell phone has replaced watch for me).

i sometime ask myself if im subliminally left handed cause i seem to favour that side from time to time, cant think of a good example off the top of my head apart from i kinda row left handed and when standing tend to put most of my weight on my left leg.

What's writing??? I guess I've been using a computer and a PDA at work and at home for so long that I can't remember the last time I've actually written more than just my signature!

I tried wearing my watch on my left hand today to see how it went and it seems OK so far except for something I never suspected. It really hurts! You can't imagine how much your usual wrist gets toughened up and used to a watch. It's only been 5 or 6 hours and I feel like my left arm is handcuffed to a cinderblock or something. I may give up.

Oh and I noticed I always pet my dogs with my right hand. Do right handed people use their left hand?

I have hands that I use for various tasks that don't really have anything to do with which hand is dominant. Like I don't touch animals with the same hand I eat with. Maybe it's something similar.

Likewise!! I haven't worn a watch in a couple of years, but when I did, I always wore it on my right hand. When I get a new watch, this won't change. Wearing it on my left hand just feels not quite right.

I do everything left handed, but write with my right, and I wear a watch on my left arm. As a child in Germany, it was strongly frowned upon to be left handed, so I learned to write with the right hand. I also lean left.

when i was in my teens, i wore my watch on my right wrist. i was (am) right-handed.

the reason was simple. when i got into a fight and it happened a lot, i used my weak (left) hand for blocking. i didn't want my watch to get any damage. It was a plastic Casio G-shock or something. Yeah it's ridiculous, i know.
