Good episode. Will this show never get old?

I think that post calls for a permaban. Seriously. It wasn't even a decent parody, and the show itself jumped the shark in Season 10.
How ironic that Apple has an iPhone commercial on during the first break.

It was a very weak parody. You could go up to any random person on the street, ask them to list the 3 worst things about Apple and bang... PARODY! Expensive! Cult-like! Trendy! It's just not that easy. It was all super obvious and lazy.
I used to be a huge Simpson's fanboy and have been a fan (and critic) of Apple products for a very long time and I found it to be very blah. They need to try harder. It felt like something a high-schooler would write.

Okay, I thought the whole 'Mapple' thing was a little weak, but as parodies go I thought it was pretty good.
And lighten up on the Simpsons. It's had some mediocre episodes, but overall it's still good and has hardly jumped the shark.

I didn't even think people watched the new episodes anymore...
It's my favorite show of all time but I like to pretend the 11th Season was their last.

And how lazy can they be to use the name Microsoft and Bill Gates in the same parody in which they call Apple Mapple and SJ Steve Mobs? I guess that kind of sloppy work is what you get from writers who are younger than I and younger than Bart would be if he aged normally. As for Family Guy and jump the shark, in order for jump the shark rules to apply you actually have to have a decent show to start with.

I will admit that the new Simpson's episodes are better... but they are still far far removed from the quality of the first 8 seasons or so.
That said, seasons 10-16 or so were all so bad that it's hard for me to even give it a chance anymore. they really killed all goodwill I had toward the show, and I was a definite SUPERFAN. I never missed a show for about 10 years. I had them all taped on VHS from the very beginning... even the Ulman shorts. I was a big fan of Life In Hell before the Simpsons even started. For me to turn my back on the show took a lot... and the show really was "that bad" for a long time. It was seriously terrible.
I think one of the big problems is just that it's been on for 20 years. There is seriously nowhere for the writers to go. It has all been done before. It's not so much that it's painful anymore. It's just painfully mediocre now.

I will always associate that song with Pink Flamingos. That image is burned into my head Clockwork Orange style.
As for the Family Guy, yeah, it's lazy humor, but it's amusing. I'm not a huge fan or anything, but do enjoy the show.

Family Guy isn't supposed to be smart, though they do have quite a few smart jokes slipped in there. (Abraham Lincoln's neighbor, anyone?) I enjoy it a lot more than the Simpsons, which focuses way too much on plot, when every single plot has already been done. It's time to go.

Not a bad episode - the "Mapple" references were tired, but Bashir flattering Homer, Lenny's first advice to Homer (the doorbell will tell you when they're here), and the 1984 parody all made me LOL.

Wow, tastes being subjective and all, I gotta say that even the weakest of this season's Simpsons has been smarter and more amusing than anything Family Guy has done in the last two years. At least the Simpsons manages to work in some actual satire from time to time. Family Guy's formula has been nothing but (fart joke) + (abortion reference) ÷ senseless repetition ± pop celebrity reference.
I was so glad when FOX brought Family Guy back, but lately I've gotten more laughs out of American Dad (ouch).

My problem with Family Guy is when they try to go all "South Park" and make some sort of point or political statement - the gay marriage episode, the McCain/Palin pin on the Nazi uniform, anything relating to the Iraq war, etc. You're not South Park, you're not good at imitating that part of it, so don't try.

Those two paragraphs are completely incongruous. I don't think FG has gotten any better or worse since it was revived. It was lightly seasoned shît before and lightly seasoned shît after.
I don't really like comparing The Simpsons and FG because they're two very different shows. I can't say qualitatively that the modern Simpsons is that much better or worse than FG, but certainly we can all agree that the modern seasons (really 11 on) stink in an epic fail sort of way in comparison to the classic seasons. It's such a different show from what it was a decade ago that it shouldn't go by the same title. To me, The Simpsons series finale was Behind the Laughter. And there's a strong indication that Matt Groening views the show in a similar way - he stopped doing intros for the DVD seasons after season 10.

Saw the episode recently and thought the Apple-parody was a bit lazy and outdated. A pretty average episode in all, yet somehow still managed to be funnier than anything Seth McFarlane has ever done. :/

That really is beside the point. The concept is lazy and trite, and the derived humour is lazy and dumb. It's the animated equivalent of a Red Letter Comedy: all schtick and no substance.

After watching Family Guy, i look back at The Simpsons and think 'wow did i actually use to find that funny'. The Simpsons in entertaining but its not funny, its better than a poke in the eye.
