I have put a tablet pc up to craigslist here in MI. I get a hit from a girl who states that she is interested. So I reply back saying that the computer is available - she replies back with this email:

Hey,
I like and want to buy the item, but then i am not present to see it because am on a national duty in the middle east and
its a gift am shipping to my younger brother who works for the united nation in west Africa.I dont mind including an extra
$150 for shipping in the payment due to its urgency.I will pay you through paypal, pls get back to me as soon as you can or
sum the total money and send a Money Request if you have one to my paypal ID > (xxxxx@gmail.com) thanks

I'm leery of the west african comment. I like craigslist because I can deal with the person personally and in cash. Is this a scam or am I being paranoid?

Four common scam hallmarks there ("I'm out of the country" + "It's a gift for someone in Africa" + offer of huge bonus + odd English).

It's pretty sad how fast people forget why sites like craiglist actually came into existence.

I bet some people would even fall for those scammers if the website was called www.only-deal-with-people-face2face.com

If you have to ask then the answer is Yes.

That doubt you feel is your natural instinct warning you about something not-quite-right; pay attention to it.

Scam,

I had one similar to this when I was selling my MBP. The person said he'd have a friend pick up the computer after we wired me the money. I told him that his friend could pay me cash for it when he shows up but declined for some reason

Good job on being forbidding for no reason Lamy. Before you decide to try an make one look stupid, be sure to look up another way a word can be used before you make yourself seem an ass.

Although you did have at least one too many commas in your original post.

Yes, tkmd, that bad, mean, forbidding, person is trying to scam you out of your tablet pc.
No comma after "forbidding" - "person" is not an item in the list of adjectives.
