There it is. This is not a troubleshooting issue. This is not a hardware or peripheral discussion. I want to replace my my Powerbook G4 with a MacBook simply because I am tired of buying power adaptors. I'm on my 4th one at anywhere from $50-$90. I'm done now.

Anyone else decided to make such an idiotic/logical decision?

I'm still on my first power adaptor with my 2001 iBook (Dual USB).

That might not be a good reason to upgrade, as cheap third-party power adapters can be found for the old iBooks/PowerBooks, but not for the new MacBooks with the patented, and therefore third-party-proof, MagSafe power adapters.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I found it cool that my new Dell E4200 (MacBook Air competition) has a super tiny and thin power adapter. The greatest innovation lately seems to be in this area, and Apple is competitive.

I've gone through 2 "cheap replacements". Maybe they don't make them for the MagSafe, because it's unnecessary.

Recognize there is a slight sense of sarcasm when I wrote this thread. I know if I weighed the money-balances, it's silly. I'm just highly annoyed.

My PB lasted 5 years and in that time only needed one new power adapter. (It just stopped working one day) And about a month ago I got a letter telling me I was party to a class action suit about defective power adapters. So it looks like the one replacement might even turn out to be free.

I suggest that you also buy a single socket surge protector that you use and carry with your power adaptor. The Apple adaptors are prone to damage from lousy power and you never know what kind of socket you are plugging into.

Not so. I'm using a cheap 3rd party MagSafe adapter on my MacBook Pro as I type. Bought from Amazon.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.
