So Apple have pulled their usual crap and discontinued a product I was just about to buy. In this instance, the 23" HD Cinema Display.

Doof needs your help to locate a store in Europe which actually has these in stock (I need two of 'em) - preferably with some kind of English-lingo friendliness going on. Just spent an hour looking at UK sites, with no luck.

And before anyone suggests it, no, I don't want a 24" LED.

Thanks chaps. It'd be much appreciated.

Calumet still lists them, maybe give them a call just to be sure.

Cheers - those dudes didn't show up in my Google searching. Will call 'em in the morning. Not hopeful, since their ship time says "3 - 10 days", which probably means they order them in a JIT fashion from Apple. Who haven't got any.

To whichever mod moved this from the lounge to the hardware section: This thread is about buying stuff, not about discussing or troubleshooting hardware.

It's about peripherals and hence it was moved to Peripherals.

I think this is a bit confusing. It's about a display (a Peripheral) and an Apple display at that. But it's not about plugs and resolutions, it's about where the now discontinued 23" ACD can be purchased. And it's early and my brain hurts. I've spoken with Oreo and it looks like it was just a "I thought it fit better" thing. So back to the Lounge with it...

Doof, why specifically the 23" ACD? Desk space? Better panel?

Why no get a Dell UltraSharp? Cheaper, more ports, still sexy, and they use the exact same LCD panel as the ACDs.

Just sayin'.

USB hub, firewire hub... ...20" is too small a resolution. 24" is glossy (yuk!). 30" is too high a resolution (will be forever scrabbling the mouse across the desk - yes, I could increase the speed but I'd lose fine control over note editing).

Update: There's precisely one new unsold 23" ACD in the UK, which may or may not be sold to whoever reserved it - store is getting back to me.

On the other hand, some bloke just talked me into grabbing a couple of Eizos. Maybe I'll go with those. Screw Apple and their stupid business model (after about 50 phone calls it seems that the 23" ACD is the most popular Apple monitor in the country - I'm not the only guy lookin' for them. Stupid Apple, discontinuing their most popular monitor).

Shif: 'Coz they're fugly and say "Dell" on them - having the word "Dell" in front of you isn't exactly inspirationally conducive to making angry, aggressive sweet, beautiful music.

I guess sexy is subjective. Although I have 24" and 20" Dell monitors that are serving me very well, I certainly wouldn't call them sexy.

Doof, have you looked into buying used monitors?

Very same reason there is an ACD 23" attached to my MDD G4 instead of an Eizo 24", poor service I got from Eizo Spain.

Coz they're fugly and say "Dell" on them - having the word "Dell" in front of you isn't exactly inspirationally conducive to making angry, aggressive sweet, beautiful music.
Don't do it or you would end… hum, getting a ticket for Eurovision, and it is only downhill from there !!

Nope. I'm not real big on used stuff. Except cars ('coz new ones are fugly) and wimmens (because they're all "used" by the time they hit 14 here).

Why “ewwww”? It’s true that around 14 or 15 is a fairly average age for girls to lose their virginity, also in the UK …

Yeah, but, no, but, yeah they've usually had about five kids by the time they're of legal age here (16) or sumthin or nuffing.

Or in this case, three by the time they’re 9, apparently. Guess turning 10 slowed her down.

Doof, when did you change your last name to Pollard?

Would you recommend that we try to locate copies of Little Britain to watch over here Stateside?

It's personal taste, I guess. If you're into a bit of bizarre, slightly offensive humour then yep, go for it. At the very least you'll acquire a big bunch of catch-phrases to add to your arsenal.
