My iPod touch 1st Gen stopped outputting Audio from the headphone jack, I did all the things to try to fix it software restore etc, its a hardware problem.

On Saturday I dug out the receipt and found my purchase date was exactly 354 days before, the warranty was running out tomorrow.

I immediately went online to book it in for a repair, but the next available appointment was today (Monday) 26th at 10 AM, So I left a note on the system explaining the situation, hoping they would forgive me one day.

I turned up today at the exact time the appointment management system booked in for me, and guess what, the whole service centre is closed for Chinese new year until next Monday.

Does anyone have know anything I can do?

Is there anyone I can call now?

I have had no joy with Apple in HK, I always end up on the phone with Apple in Singapore or Apple in Australia.

Have you tried calling Apple in the US directly perhaps?

Did you mean 364 instead of 354?

I will try the US tonight, Apple Singapore are closed for CNY and Australia is closed for Australia Day.

If I can actually get to speak to Apple in Australia i'm sure they will help me out (they have issued a warranty exemption for me before), its just the people in Hong Kong that seem a bit clueless.

FYI I have no proof that I reported the problem on Saturday, the management system confirmed, I copied the text, but it did not email me.

I will let you know.

Just spoke to Apple Australia who put me through to a call centre in India.
The guy assured me that there would be no problem getting a new ipod, but I must do it within 20 days from today (the warranty is to Feb 09 even though I bought it in Jan08 ?)

So I feel a bit better.

I went into the Quarry bay CASE and they gave me a new ipod within 5 minutes, they didn't even look at the original receipt. Its great as my last one was all scratched up.

Good result.
