What an awesome street. I was in town for SXSW and every night we spent walking up and down 6th St. So many badass bars and each one has a unique pull to it. If you're in Austin, you have to check it out.

Places:
Hoek's Death Metal Pizza
Coyote Ugly
Chugging Monkey
Dirty Dog Bar

..that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Austin is awesome (and weird!), and worth it's own thread! (no matter what BPR thinks....)

I went there for business once, expecting to spend my free night on 6th street. Instead, I spent it in the parking lot of a brew pub, drinking beer with total strangers (and their dogs). The best night I had on a business trip in a long time....

Sixth Street is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. But you seem to have left out the local stalwarts of the area. Like Maggie Mae's, and The Old Pecan St. Cafe. I sure do miss living in Austin...

Brass, picture a street (something like 6 or 8 blocks of it) full of clubs, restaurants, clubs, bars, and clubs, all catering to young people and not so young people. Now remember that this is in The Live Music Capital of the World... Spam? Not at all. Reverie...

Great food, music, and recreation. It's grown too big, and I'm too young to have enjoyed it in its best, laid-back days. The only other problem with Austin is all the Austinites. Sometimes the hipper than thou attitude gets a little tiring, even if they are really hipper than country mice like us.
