Hi, the title, may be misleading. What I want to ask is, is it OK if I create a sticky (probably in the OS X forum) that new members who are moving from Windows to Mac can refer to.

That way, stuff about PC to Mac basics and running Windows applications on the mac platform (virtual machines) is all in the same place. I just wanted to make sure this is OK with the mods and admins before I go ahead and do it.

I'm pretty sure you can't post a sticky without being a mod/admin.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

No, I guess you're right. But no one would object if I created a normal thread to do the same thing, right?

Discussion of virtual machines and Windows apps belongs in the Alternative Operating Systems forum, not in Mac OS X. Mac OS X is strictly for discussion of the operating system itself, Applications is for discussion of Mac applications (other than virtual machines, as a general rule), and Alternative Operating Systems is for discussion of all non-Mac OS computing.

I don't think so, but it does seem like he's come here to "own" the forum.

If you want to create a sticky, just create the thread and ask the resident mods to make it a sticky.

A switchers sticky would surely be welcome. Feel free to pm a draft to me and we can discuss the details, e. g. whether it's a good idea to put some stuff into a separate post in a different forum.

I think coordinating with the appropriate forum's mods ahead of time would be a good idea, too. Let 'em know what you're planning, give 'em an outline of what you intend to put in the proposed sticky, and so on. You might get some really helpful feedback from them, such as "we think the order you have things is great, but X is already covered in Y, so you could just link to that..." or that sort of thing.

A basic guide for new converts, that includes things about what the OS will do for you, and maybe refers to stuff in AltOS about virtualization and such would be a very useful thing.

Oh, I didn't see that. Sorry, I'm a lousy thread reader. Thanks Oreo. I'll work on it now. Is there a way to quote stuff already said by members and put the quotes in a different thread.
