Was listening to Brian Eno on BBC Radio 4 talking about his commission to create the startup chime for windows.

Apparently the briefing document included a list of over 58 words that described how the tune must sound, including "bold, creative, modern, challenging, fresh..." as well as a stipulation that the tune must last no longer than 3.58 seconds.

BBC "Did you write the tune on a PC?"

Eno " Good god no! I used a Mac. I've never used a PC in my life, hateful things".

Seriously? This is hilarious! Both the fact that they wanted a bold, creative, modern, challenging, fresh +58 tune of 3.58 seconds and that the guy who created the tune used a Mac.

EDIT: Wikipedia says he said about 150 adjective, including sexy. Even more ridiculous!
I'm on MacNN forums, but no longer have a Mac...

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Eno did 95, yes. For some reason I always thought Steve Ball did the Windows XP sounds, but I didn't find any information on that now that I searched. But XP definitely doesn't sound like Eno.

I'd *love* to have gotten that gig.

Although quite how I'd fit the words "Why don't you throw this old crap into the dumpster and go buy a proper computer like a Mac, you complete tool" into 3.58 seconds, I don't know.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.
