okay so maybe/maybe not...

I had front door speakers installed there Saturday in my 4dr 2006 civic. I was replacing blown speakers, they had to remove the door panel to install them. I realized right away my front drive side window no longer worked w/ auto up/down feature. I called my honda dealer, they told me to reset it by holding the window switch up for 3 seconds while closed. That seemed to work, but every time I turn the car off I have to reset it to work.

So today I decide to try all the windows, the back passenger side rolled down but not up. Now it's stuck down and won't roll up, which blows because it's going to rain here for the next 2 days. I had to tape it up with a trash bag. My back window worked intermittently before, but it would always work after a few tries.

Is this just a coincidence that they stopped working, or could best buy have messed something up? Should I take my car to best buy? or just go to my honda dealer to get it repaired?

It's hard to prove who did it. They may have to take the panel off to see if they nicked a wire.

btw: had to....

what's weird is the back passenger window won't even work with the switch on its door. That panel was never removed. I will probably just go to the dealer, I don't want best buy messing things up more, plus I don't have time to hassle with best buy, and I trust the dealer I go to. This is my 4th car from them.

Okay just tried my windows again, none of them work. Surely best buy had to mess this up. I am going to talk to best buy tomorrow. I hope they don't give me a hassle, if they do I am done with Best Buy.

I bet the connection to the drivers side window control is loose or something... it's easy to take a door panel off and check the wiring...

take it back to worst buy and have them check the switch panel wiring, I better do it for free and be quick about it too...

Go to the Best Buy, talk to the DAY MANAGER and show him what's happening. Explain the "odd coincidence" about how this happened only after you had your speakers replaced by HIS people. Suggest that he have Honda fix the windows at the store's expense.

They are all tied to the switch in the driver's door. Start there. Pull the trim panel off and make sure all the connections are solid. Unplug and re-plug.

That reset procedure makes me think there is a window controller that the switches are connected to. Usually called a "door module", it actually controls the windows based on the switch inputs (the switches do not drive the windows directly). A loose connection would explain everything, but it could be worse (nicked or cut wire, wire shorted to door ground, etc.).

The easiest thing to do to save money is to pull the door panel yourself and remove the speaker to see what is nearby and try to locate the door module. It may be a coincidence or it may be a screw-up. You should be able to find some clues by looking yourself. If you have a shop manual, that will help you, too.
