Haven't you noticed that in 99% of the cases, he's not serious, just making sh!t up ?

In this case it's because I'm upset that I haven't found a good Ethiopian restaurant here in San Antonio. He reminded me of the wonderfulness of that food and I gushed about it. YUM! So I had an excuse to tell everyone that I like Ethiopian food, and to rag on how the Ethiopian people have gotten the shaft from the so called people who have been running the show in their land for several decades. Double win!

Yeah, that's a good reason to be upset.

Last good Ethiopian food I had was in LA, IIRC.

I'm prepping for some call-back interviews Monday and Tuesday, and trying to compare job offers. I'm looking forward to dropping that stuff over the weekend. My wife and I are planning to drive up to Austin and visit with some friends on Saturday, then sort of relax on Sunday.

This weekend I'll be working on a few writing projects.
Unless I see the sun, that is. Then I'll be on the beach.

Friday night I'm going to a bicycle ride then probably grabbing a Redbox. Saturday is motorcycle fun then some wedding (hoping for the open bar). Sunday should be pretty relaxing.

Surf photography weekend. Apparently the waves are going to be good on the South West coast of France this weekend. The Sigma 70-300 is going to be fixed to my D40 and I'll be hoping that I don't drop the beast into the soup a la IceEnclosure. May try putting the tripod on the beach as well.

Oh yeah, get to see my kids that I haven't seen for a week

BACHELOR PARTY.

Main events will be go-karts then German beer from a boot. Lots of other stuff in there, too. Saturday (besides recovering) will be spent on motorcycles.

I survived the night. Highlights included winning a first place ribbon at the go-kart track, getting cut off at the German bier place because we'd had too many boots, and one of my friends vomiting out the tailgate window of the SUV we were riding in down the interstate.

We wound up having a busier weekend than we'd expected. Plenty of errands to run on Saturday after dog training, had friends over for dinner too. Today, we'd expected to veg while the laundry ran-we expected to take a while to get it all done, since we didn't have a chance to do any during the week. Turned out we had some neighborhood duties to handle first; we got the job of notifying neighbors of when the paving crews would be blocking their driveways, and that took some time to coordinate and more time to do the actual notification. We wound up vegging, alright, but only after a couple of hours of sweating in the hot out-of-doors.

All is well now. Two showers each (one before we headed out, one after we got back), some laundry folding, and a nice spaghetti dinner later, and we're nice and relaxed.

Last weekend of summer for me, kids getting picked up, all at home together for the first time in five weeks. Will try a few more surf shots at the beach (last attempt was pretty p1ss poor). May have to suffer with some fois gras and confit de canard washed down with some decent wine - oh dear life is hard sometimes.

Have a good w/e.

There's overtime, which comes with a premium.

I assume "straight time" is "what-the-****-are-you-talking-about-be-thankful-you-even-HAVE-a-job-now-get-out-of-my-goddamn-office-before-I-replace-you-with-my-pet-monkey-ya-punk" weekend work hours.

Its France's first weekend after summer break, so everything like sports clubs, associations, night courses etc gets started this weekend. This is when most people sign up to a gym for a year and then only do a couple of months. I am one of the clever ones (hard to believe I know) - I just play with my Xbox so I only cost an XBL Gold membership.

Daughter (5.5 years old) wants to start horse riding. I just hope that there's a low-cost option.

Light painting was planned for tonight. I had a few beers to prepare myself for the walk to the park.

Well a storm has decided to thwart us. I had loads of lights to play with as well.

Whole weekend looks like it'll be sh1te weather.

It's Saturday morning, so it's time to head down to the trawlers, buy a kilo of king prawns, get some nice beers and hit the beach for a picnic and a swim.

I'm reclining in my chair because I got the end of my right big toe amputated Wednesday. Seriously. Can I post a pic, or are amputation pics no-gos?

You can feel that fall is around the corner up here - there's frost in the forecast for tonight. As a result we went to a local diner and indulged in comfort food and beers.

I think that you should post in the photo critique thread, then all bases are covered. Of course, you also need to explain the amputation and be prepared for sarcastic / unforgiving / downright rude comments from a large proportion of the Lounge.

Okay, here's what I'm doing this weekend! I had my right great toe amputated to the first joint because I had a granular cell tumor on it. This surgery happened Wednesday, and lasted 4.5 hours (they also removed some lymph nodes to test for malignancy). This is day 3 now, with the stitches to be removed in 3 weeks. Hurts like a mother scratcher. Bound to crutches for quite a while, then down to a cane, then to not needing assistance. The black stitches make it look like a little Frankenstein's monster.

If you're a wuss, DON'T click the spoiler image! It's a pic of my feet, resting on pillows, taken with my iPhone, showing my "new" toe in comparison to the rest. Any redness you see is not blood — it's just redness and swelling from the surgery.

DANG!!!! I'll bet that hurts! It's good they only had to take the most distal part of the toe-that toe is kinda important to locomotion, and it's a bear to learn how to walk well without it. What kind of follow-up do they have planned for you? Besides rehab to learn to walk smoothly, of course.

That's about it. I just have to take my time and gradually build-up to being able to put full weight on it. There's a decent chance I'll use a cane for quite a while, once I get over the initial "crutch stage."

In 3 months I'll be getting with Touch Bionics and having them make me an aesthetic prosthetic toe. Their work is freaking AMAZING. They custom paint the toe, add acrylic nails that match your existing nails, add hair, etc., etc., etc. These guys are on the edge of the Sci-Fi stuff we read about.

But, my toe won't be mechanical — it'll just attach to my existing toe. I'll be able to do anything with it except for walk at the beach. It'll keep flip flops on my feet, help me balance better, etc.

unfortunately I need to pull the engine so I can replace the clutch... I sorta stripped out the bolts at the top of the transmission bellhousing...
