OK, how odd is this? Two upcoming movies with similar names and similar posters... but very different.

Apple - Trailers - 9
This one by Tim Burton look kind of cool.

Apple - Movie Trailers - Nine
This one has a lot of relatively famous names.

I'd have to see the other 16 first.

"9" is supposed to be about sack puppets. The only reason I know that is because of doing some research about PS#s Little Big Planet.

Don't forget Neill Blomkamp's District 9 coming out this summer. Here's the same trailer without the COPS-style pixelated aliens and subtitles in the interview. And here is Blomkamp's original short Alive in Joburg that inspired District 9. I'm actually looking forward to D9. 9 I'll probably see, Nine probably not so much.

Here's Shane Acker's original short on which the feature length 9 is based.

Distric 9 seems like a tad bit too heavy handed on the allegory there, but could be interesting nonetheless.

9 however looks amazing. The short was really well done, so I hope they haven't Disney'ed it too much up with a whole crew as opposed to the last sackman on earth.

If Seven of isn't in either of them, I'm not interested.

It's supposedly still written and directed by Shane Acker, so I assume he probably didn't ruin his own movie.

Studios are well known for pressuring new writers/directors into following their whims.

This is not a new phenomenon.

I agree, setting it in South Africa does seem to push it over the top.

Yes, but they usually don't let them write and direct the movie in that case. It seems like usually they'll hire the creator as a writer, have 12 script doctors go through it, then get Michael Bay to direct.

True, but they will still offer helpful "hints" that a new writer/director would find hard to argue against.
