I want to buy a MacBook Pro through the education discount at the Apple Store. However, I want to claim the rebate for the free iPod, and I also want to claim the MBP through my dept.

I need an "original" receipt for both claims. I figure if it's just a white laser printed sheet of 8.5x11" paper, I can just photocopy it. It should be good enough. However, if it's one of those ~3" wide thermal printer receipts then that's a problem. My dept. wants the original receipt. On Apple's rebate form they also say they want the original receipt, but I don't know how strict they'd be on that, and if they'd accept photocopies.

When I've done this in the past, it's always been through the online store, so I've always just printed my own receipts anyway.

P.S. I called the Apple rebate dept. but they're closed.

It should be no problem to have them print out 2 original receipts if they are the standard store kind, just explain why.

I'm pretty sure every Apple Store receipt I've gotten was just a white laser-printed 8.5" × 11" sheet of paper. But for some reason, I remember the one from my 2005 iMac G5 way better than my 2007 MacBooks…

I bought a Time Capsule at the Eaton Centre yesterday and had the receipt emailed to me, the way I always do. It's a 8.5 x 11 pdf, that you can just print out. There is no difference between printing it out at the store, or printing it out yourself.

Do they really use 8.5 x 11 in Canada? I thought you all went metric.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

This "original receipt" idea is so silly in today's world, where more and more receipts are electronically transmitted.

It's not like printed original receipts are printed on tamperproof paper with security marks, so it couldn't be altered or counterfeited.

As far as I recall, all of my Apple Store receipts have been printed on standard letter-size paper and indistinguishable from the version that was emailed to me.

Ah, emailed PDF? That's perfect. This is gonna be a killer deal. 13" MBP with free iPod touch and work is covering part of the cost of the laptop.

Heh. The perils of living near the USA. I am 150 lbs, but my Prius is rated at 5.1 L/100 km.

Anyways, my printer paper is labelled as being 216x279 mm.

Just to make sure I called them and they said they could give me both a regular receipt and an emailed one. You have to ask for the emailed one though. Otherwise they often just give you that regular receipt that looks like the one you get in a restaurant.

My store (La Cantera in San Antonio) just asked if I had an Apple ID and after that all my receipts have come via email. Hopefully yours will now too. Having an emailed PDF for your records can be VERY handy.
