Like the thread title says, I'd like to get a hold of a compendium of dinosaurs. Amazon has all kinds of kid books with the top dino contenders, but I'm looking for something with a lot of good guts and info about as many known dinosaurs as possible -- with all (or boat-loads) of the species varities.

Anyone have any heavy-duty books or volumes to recommend?

I got out of the "know about dinosaur" business about 15 years ago. Sorry nobody else has popped in with help.

my son has the "encyclopedia of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures." it's written/designed for kids, but there's a decent range of info in there...

for example, i hadn't heard of any of the hypsilophodonts on this page ^ and it has a rough illustration, scale drawing, time period, area, etc.

you may also want to check with a university's paleontology dept to see what text books they recommend.
one post closer to five stars

This website taught me most of what I know about dinosaurs.

I need a book, though, not a site.

What's a "book"?
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

Ironically, books, too, are extinct.

Are you looking for something like this? Or is there a specific age range for the target audience?

Basically, books for someone who doesn't want a volume on a specific species, but wants more than 3-6 paragraphs and a sketch about each kind.
