I haven't looked into Bluray support in my Mac for years, as I gave up after many consecutive disappointments. Being truly clueless about the whole situation, I see this in my DVD Player prefs:

Does it mean that I can remove the BDROM drive in my PC (great HTPC for over a year), plug it to my Macbook and watch my Coraline bluray disc and watch it?

DVD Player can play HD DVD discs that were authored using Apple's DVD Studio Pro.

Note: DVD Player cannot play HD DVD discs that were not authored in DVD Studio Pro, even if a compatible HD DVD drive is connected to, or installed in, your computer.

No BluRay, no commercial HDDVD, not even home-made HDDVD from applications other than Apple's DVD Studio Pro.

Pretty much - that feature was likely only there to test HD-DVDs made in DVD Studio Pro. The DRM software to play back commercial HD DVDs is not there.
