It may seem extreme, but people need to realize that there are consequences for giving your finger to the state. It's your DUTY as a citizen to accept and pay all taxes, levies and fines. Refusing to do so hurts the entire community.

It's funny since the fireman is alright, but... maybe people shouldn't speed. Might cut down on your tickets if you don't break the law. Just saying.

Uhm, do you really think that the police was only after true offenders ?
Heck, the way the acted, they might have mis-calibrated their guns or done other things, just to generate the extra income.

Maybe the speed limit should be remotely reasonable. People wouldn't break the law so much if the laws were written intelligently and with an eye toward public welfare. Just saying.

Maybe we should replace airbags with really really sharp spikes, that shot out in the event of an accident, ensuring the death of the driver and all the passengers. People wouldn't speed so much then. Just saying.

Minor quibble here. The "law" is "obey the posted speed limit." That's quite reasonable. It's the posted speed limit that seems to be the issue here-including the one person who was ticketed for doing 58 in his driveway!(???)
A smallish town just north of San Antonio used to be "the speed trap of Central Texas." The speed limit on I-35 went from 55 to 45 just in the city limits, and the police force in this small town was very good at noticing when you were going over 46MPH. All the way up until the Department of Justice (the feds) got involved. Seems nobody had really calibrated the radar guns (forged or just plain falsified documents offered as evidence in court), cops often placed themselves OUTSIDE the city limits and "clocked" people before or after the lower speed limit was in effect, and what the city did with the money while raising property taxes may never be completely known. Today, the town's old police station is a (I kid you not!) Hooters restaurant right off the freeway. Yeah, that sort of thing happens when you get THAT stupid with a "speed trap cash cow."
