I have quite a collection of older audio books on tape that were never released on CD or made available on any of the digital audiobook websites. I want to digitize them. I've bought a couple cheap players with auxiliary ports, but now I'm afraid I've irreparably damaged a few of my audio books with these stupid, cheap players.

Can someone recommend a good quality tape deck that would be ideal for playing back my old tapes and recording them onto my computer?

USB or normal audio component? what do you mean cheap?

$170 or less for real decks (you have to do the recording/converting on your computer):

Cassette Decks at Crutchfield.com

$120 or less for USB models like this (it converts to mp3 for you):

ION Tape 2 PC USB Dual Cassette Deck and Archiver in Professional Cassette Decks at JR.com

O/T

Man, that reminds me of the 80s, where I bought a tape deck for hundreds of dollars.
All those bells and whistles that you'd hardly find today in tape decks.

Normal audio is fine, I'll do the recording. I just want a tape deck that won't stretch my already fragile tapes. They've been completely mangled by the $50 tape/CD players from Target.
