Haha. That was pretty funny. I especially liked the toilet bit.

"the iPod struggles a bit (at my toilet without the light) but hey, so do I sometimes."

Under the right lighting conditions the nano doesn't look too awful bad, but it's not the best. I'd rather have iPhone 3gs video over the nano if I had to choose.

Is the nano that bad? The video from the 3GS isn't very good.

The Nano seems to give you a "not terrible" video camera capability that, theoretically, you'd have with you all the time in a very small package. While I obviously prefer the Canon's quality and flexibility (note that the focus change shots were all Canon because the Nano just can't do that), being able to record decent video whenever I wanted and wherever I was is not a bad thing. I'll stick with my iPhone 3Gs though, because I think its video is superior to the Nano's. And I don't want to buy yet another iPod at the moment.

I especially enjoyed that low light toilet comparison. The nano was almost completely black (as expected).

BTW, although he didn't mention it, that rack focusing done on the Canon almost certainly means he's using a spendy focus puller rig (although I have seen some bargain basement DIY solutions that can work for simple shots like this). I'm told it's near impossible to do it acceptably just freehand. Perhaps something like this:

I kinda thought those rack shots were too smooth to be done manually.

What rack options are there for the 5DII... those Redrock racks are $$$$$ (or £££££ over here)

This one costs about £1.

Seriously though, the cheapskates seem to be gravitating to this:

:

BTW, the cheapskate in me was considering picking up a cheap slider but I then decided against it for now, cuz I'm far too much of a video n00b at this point to really make good use of it.

Maybe I'll treat myself to a $170 birthday present next year though...

Ok wait... one is a CAMERA and one is an MP3 player right? Why the comparison of these 2?

I don't get the "smackdown" aspect ?

As expected, the Nano fared worse than the Canon.
To argue the price difference is moot. There is no objective quality to price metric, it's all subjective.

Not my test, which probably explains why the people in it are speaking another language.

Plus my comment should have given it away:

What, you mean you don’t speak Dutch to your two daughters at home when you’re filming them with your 5D Mark II?

What an odd Canadian you are.

All things considered, the nano isn't a bad performer.

^ But doesn't play music.

I am using the iPhone video a whole lot more than I thought I would.

Let me be the first to vote for the EOS 5D as the best mp3 player ever.
