"Okay, we need to come up with a new TV show in three minutes. What do you have?"
"Animated! It should be animated!"
"Good! Love it! What's it about?"
"Uh...a family! And the wacky situations that they encounter!"
"Perfect! Let's talk family members. Dad?"
"Well he's...uh...fat! That's always funny!"
"AWESOME! What else?"
"He's...well intentioned! He loves his family and wants the best for them, but occasionally makes poor decisions!"
"What's his quirk?"
"He has a unique and slightly irritating laugh!"
"Spot on! Tell me about the wife."
"She's a babe. She could probably be doing better than the man she's married to. But she loves him a lot. And she's the voice of reason of the family!"
"That sounds fresh, new, and not overdone! Perfect! How about kids?"
"Well there's a daughter...she's either really hot or really ugly..."
"We'll figure that out later! Next!"
"A son!"
"What's his deal?"
"He's uh...really young or small or something."
"I need more!"
"Uh...he's wise beyond his years, but still has to deal with issues that present themselves due to his age and or size."
"PERFECT. I need one more kid!"
"Uh...uh...a son?"
"What's his thing?"
"He's...uh...uh...REALLY FAT!"
"HAHAHAHA HILARIOUS! Okay how about some other characters!"
"How about several neighbors with unique quirks!"
"Perfect!"
"One is physically deficient in some way, but is cocky and overconfident."
"LOVE IT! Next?"
"Uh...someone acting stereotypically of his demographic?"
"AWESOME. SOUNDS GREAT. But wait...we need one more thing...something..."
"Uh...an animal?"
"Okay...what about this animal?"
"He walks, talks, and lives his life as a human, and people rarely acknowledge that he's not human."
"WE HAVE A NEW TV SHOW!!"
Sound familiar. Well of course. It's
OR IS IT

Yes they are similar, but it's kind of the point given MacFarlane's conceit that his characters inhabit sort of a modern day "All in the Family" universe. "The Cleveland Show" is "The Jeffersons."
But it's still a bad idea.

That's means we'll see a Gloria-type spinoff as well. God help us.

Just wait til the bears get their own spin-off.
Also: American Dad! Doesn't quite fit your profile.

Which is convenient because "American Dad!" was never funny.

Yeah, but it's close. The idiot dad, the babe wife, the social-outcast son, the reject daughter, the quirky family member always working on some sort of scheme, the talking pet, etc.. As a disclaimer, I've only seen two or three episodes of American Dad.

Yeah, so is The Cleveland Show.
SHOOT! I forgot to add in the part in my first post about the Dad having a signature laugh.

At least Cleveland's speech speed has increased a good deal since the first episodes of Family Guy. He was downright unbearable.

Everything that's wrong with The Cleveland Show is wrong with Family Guy. Problem is Family Guy started out good and devolved to suck. The Cleveland Show started at suck.

I love how Family Guy can only manage 3 new episodes in a row. I'd love to burn the house of the guy who does the scheduling down to the ground.

I wouldn't even care, but the Sunday week-delayed airings from Adult Swim got moved to Mondays, and I can only imagine its because Family Guy's demographic probably preferred the later Sunday Night airings to the 9 pm ones.

Los Angeles stylist learns modern meaning of 'pay phone' with $45 collect call bill
When a Los Angeles hairstylist accepted a collect call from a customer, she had no idea it would run more than $45. And no idea that's just what collect calls from pay phones cost in the mobile age.
Barbara James gladly accepted the call from 84-year-old client Pat Devine, who said she was running late and called from a pay phone because her cell phone had died.
James' bill from Network Communications International showed about $37 for the quick call, about $5 in regulatory fees and taxes, and about $3 for a "billing cost recovery fee."
