Spent last weekend on a two day mosaicing course, late birthday present from Mrs DHM. I didn't really want to just copy something, even though it was my first time, so I had a vague plan.

My idea was to take images created with the highest possible technology and recreate them with one of the oldest visual technologies. So I found a great image of sub atomic particle tracks from a cloud chamber.

Here's how it went.

grouting added

grouting wiped down

I need to wipe it down with acid to clean the coloured tiles back to brightness, but overall I'm quite happy with the concept and how it's turned out.

:-)

as it is at the moment

Doof likey.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

Wow, that's beautiful! What a great concept for an art piece! I would totally buy that (or something like it) as a gift for my wife.

I thought I might do a set of them and see how they go! Maybe university science departments might buy them.

As long as they're priced reasonably with shipping to the US I'll buy one!

Very, very cool.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

Yeah nice.

I always thought that doing stuff like that at home as a hobby would be expensive, is it?

No it's cheap as chips, just very time consuming. I'd guess there's maybe £25 of materials in it in total.

No that's pottery. You buy the tiles from craft shops. All you need are some cutters, some pva glue, some wood to stick it all to and some grouting compound. And a lot of free time. It's a great cheap hobby
