Released almost a decade ago, i cant believe i almost missed this amazing series. If it wasn't for me renting out Apollo13(again) i would have probably missed this series altogether.

From a production standpoint, i was certainly impressed. Acting, direction, score, props, etc...all top notch imo. The content is well....a telling of that apex moment in human history, and the recreation looks authentic and true to the events and people.

I'm watching the series for the second time in as many weeks, and am still captivated. If you haven't already seen it, rent it out or buy it.... you won't be disappointed. highly recommended!

Enjoy!

PS>>Be warned that there are two different sets available. The original in 4:3 was the broadcast version. The 'signature edition' in 16:9 has the video cropped to accommodate the aspect ratio, thus loosing some of the content. I've watched the widescreen edition, and cant really complain, but the purists might want the 4:3 one.

Sams had the set for $20 back in the summer. I got it again because a couple of the original ones were pretty jaggy. The 4:3 appears to be the original transfer. Not distracting really, but you can see the limits of 1998 DVD technology.

Excellent series, not too many historical inaccuracies that I've found. Fun to watch. I hope that it will help future generations connect with the Apollo/Gemini/Mercury bunch.
He can be fixed -- you can't.

I havent seen that series. This series is a "recreation" in the "docu-drama" format. (Think "Pirates of Silicon Valley" except more detailed and more accurate to the original content).

The score is by Michael Kamen (composed the music for "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves", among others).... distinctly American. And there's a lot of CCR in the soundtrack as well )

What i took away from this series..... 40 years ago, our species made it to the moon. even after 40 years of advancements....integrated circuits, GPS, etc..... we(people) havent taken the next step.

finboy. I guess you own/have seen both the versions of the series(4:3 and 16:9)... any overall recommendation one way or the other ?
