Yeah, I feel bad for my dogs every time I let them out to do their business. Not bad enough to let them do it inside, though.

Yeah, it's all still a work in progress so I don't have any padding or upholstery done yet, but it was the only bike that would start in this weather.

I’m back in Copenhagen where the temperatures are milder (currently 19°F/–7°C), but the past six or seven days at my parents place in the middle of a Swedish forest far out in the middle of nowhere, it’s been going up and down between –23°C and –14°C (–10°F and 7°F, respectively). Bloody cold (and slippery) walking the dog. Thankfully, only about four or five inches of snow at the most, mostly less than that.

They’re running out of firewood, though, which is not good. There’s no central heating, only the furnace downstairs. There’s probably enough wood left for today and perhaps tomorrow—I’m hoping their firewood guy comes tomorrow. Otherwise, they’re going to have a couple of very cold days.

Ya know, if you had been singing Linkin Parks' "Numb" when you took that picture, it wouldn't have been emo.

Do bikes have a cigarette lighter? Could you plug in a heating pad to the seat?

Yes, I will be sure to adjust the settings on my cell phone camera when it's eight below.

I actually only used my cell phone camera because my Canon's lens wouldn't pop out in this weather. It was literally frozen shut.`

Have you licked a flagpole yet?

I went snowshoeing the past two nights in similar weather. Friday night it was -2F with a windchill of -8F while last night it was 0F with a windchill of -12F. I was with a group of folks last night and we lasted only an hour or so. A temperature of -8F in the daytime hours is just wrong. The windchill must have been -20F or more.

Well the weather up on Mount Washington has been unusually warm.

Good news is that it's perfect conditions for the party I'm throwing up there:

Temperature 9.6°F
Wind 44.9 mph
Direction 326° (NW)
Gust 61.0 mph
Wind Chill -16.5°F

Please let me know who's coming so I know how much ice for drinks I need to pick up.
What, me worry?

Bit chilly then. I have fond memories of riding a CB350 (great bike) around Scotland and my gloves getting frozen solid around the grips. Don't think that I could handle a trip like that now.

It's been pretty warm here... nearly 60˚ today! Annoyingly, I had an eye doctor appointment... the doctor dilated my pupils so I had to stay indoors most of the afternoon.

bah, that's nothing! To help put it in perspective, here's a helpful temp conversion chart (These are not that exaggerated BTW):

People in New England plant gardens.

40° F:

People in New England drive with the windows down.

32° F:
Distilled water freezes.
Maine's Moose head Lake's water gets thicker.

20° F:
Floridians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats.
People in New England throw on a flannel shirt.

15° F:
New York landlords finally turn up the heat.
People in New England have the last cookout before it gets cold.

0° F:
All the people in Miami die.
New Englanders close the windows.

10° below zero:
Californians fly away to Mexico.
The Girl Scouts in New England are selling cookies door to door.

25° below zero:
Hollywood disintegrates.
People in New England get out their winter coats.

40° below zero:
Washington DC runs out of hot air.
People in New England let the dogs sleep indoors.

100° below zero:

New Englanders get frustrated because they can't start their "kahs."

460° below zero:
All atomic motion stops (absolute zero on the Kelvin scale).
People in New England start saying, "cold 'nuff for ya?"!

500° below zero:
Hell freezes over.
The Red Sox win the World Series!
What, me worry?
