Anyone have any particular opinion on the Range Rover, and which year would be a good one to buy used?

Wasn't that for the older Range Rovers? Their entire camera motorcade is made up of Range Rovers. They also gave it high marks a couple years ago.

Unless you're a mechanic or you can afford an Overfinch, don't touch one. Any year.

Mk1 Rangies are getting prtty long in the tooth now and can be complete money pits. A well looked after end of line RR classic might be good bet.
The current style is quite good and not a complete dog reliability wise. Quite a lot of cash though. The Mk2 range Rover can be had for virtually nothing, but the styling is not great and the reliability is suspect, particularly the air ride versions.

The 2010 model with 5.0L or the TDV8 is very good. The last generation (2003-2009) wasn't rated very well, except in turbo diesel versions. Any of the mid 90s-2002 models were fairly terrible. The early 90's to 1995 Classic is pretty much bullet proof. Just stay away from anything with the BMW motors.
