So out of morbid curiosity I decided to go over to Ars to see what is happening with the CES keynote.

All I can say is if this had been a "Steve-note". Everyone working behind stage would either be dead or fleeing for their lives!

*For those not following the "drama", the show was supposed to start about 30 mins ago but has been delayed because of "power issues". *

Apparently the audience has been sitting in the dark this whole time!

Agreed. No one knows what Apple is going to release or what it will do or how it will work, so they are announcing products that aren't ready for sale to beat Apple to the announcement.

Watch Apple announce NOTHING about the tablet on Jan 26 and sit back for another 3 months while the industry stews in its own juices releasing products that no one wants to buy. When the iWhatever comes out, they'll all have to go back to the drawing board.

That would be funny, but is not likely to happen.

Apple needs to give the developers a chance to customize their apps, so when the iSlate comes out, software is available.

Very likely. But those key developers is a separate group from the general development community.

Also, it's been speculated before that Apple wants to avoid the details coming to light throught FCC fillings. In that sense, it'll be a preemptive strike.
