I just thought of an idea. I think it's a good one. Here's my plan: Sell off some more stuff on ebay, prep my car for long distance driving, pack one nice set of clothes, 2 sets of comfortable clothes, a pool cue, a sleeping bag, a pillow, my portfolio, a digital camera, and a stack of 100 resumes and 300 business cards.

Travel from city to city, hit up major design firms as well as smaller ones, looking for work. Sleep in the car when necessary, but hopefully use couchsurfing, since it's so awesome. Wake up to daylight, head to a local snap fitness, work out, shower, change, repeat. I'm thinking I could hit up the west coast in about 1.5 weeks, and then maybe swing through the south west, then austin, then atlanta, then miami, then the east coast, NYC, Philly, and head back to Milwaukee.

I'm unemployed at the moment, but I do make some money through unemployment. What do you guys think? Does this sound epicly stupid or just epic?

It's a good idea.

When I first started out I was told that I had to wait at least a year for an internship. Doing something very similar - on a smaller scale - got me two offers within two weeks. What have you got to lose?

The more I think about this, the better idea I think it is. Only issue is I need to refresh the Audi before heading out. New suspension, control arms, springs, struts, and stereo should do the trick. Also going to get it tinted so nobody decides to break into it, like they did earlier this year.

Sounds sweet. I'd pack a few extras:

More clothes (2 nice, 5 slobby).
More resumes.
Laptop.
Satnav.
A bit of emergency cooking kit (army surplus, etc.), in case you find yourself in the middle of nowhere.

My only issue would be this: you interview in Austin, you're driving into NYC and get a call back. What do you do?

He should probably sell the Audi. I've heard those can only drive east. Best to have a car that can also go west.

You can stay with me when you get to St. Louis. My only rule is that it has to put the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I think it's a good idea. I have a grand dream of doing that in Europe one day.

Why the pool cue? I don't get that part... Is that for pleasuring yourself?

I'm surprised you have to ask, besson. When you are on the road you have to be ready to defend your honor in pool at all times. To do without would be like walking into Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus without a sword ready. Foolish, to say the least.

See also the pool cue fight scene in Road House.

I thought that was what his car was for? Hence the "refresh".

Which is why I'm surprised you didn't immediately get the pool cue's importance.

Just covering the bases. Some punks might challenge you to a drag race, others to pool. A bit like fencing vs. pistols at dawn.

No, there are other uses of pool cues, which you simply don't know about.
I guess this is more a reflection of you than of Rob.

Yeah, but it's a little too soon to be pretending to be Patrick Swayze. Some of us are still mourning, okay?

It's also important as an unemployed person to win drag races so that you can secure employment for yourself that would ensure the security of the victor title...

Sounds like a good idea. You need to get out of whatever shit State you are currently in. Sounds like a deadend in the sticks.

A site that may help:

I also agree with Doofy. Bring a bit more supplies, especially an emergency kit for food.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

This sounds like fun. As well, if I recall correctly, expenses incurred while job searching are tax deductible - so I'd perhaps secure interviews in as many states as you can. And talk to your accountant.

Young, unemployed people rarely have an account. Heck, old, employed people rarely have an accountant either.
