Why the is this movie called The Karate Kid when he's learning Kung Fu?

Noriyuki "Pat" Morita (Mr. Miyagi) is rolling over in his grave right now!
What, me worry?

Um…'cuz it's a remake of a movie by that name and the specific martial art in question is unimportant to the story?

Also, The Kung Fu Kid is a pretty horrible name.

Jackie Chan is a jackass.

He used to be cool when he was young though.

I think it will be an interesting flic. Playing off the mystique/fanbase of the original film but transposing it from SoCal to China sounds like a formula that can work. Jackie Chan isn't doing the over-the-top stuff in this one that he does in "The Spy Next Door," but rather being more mentor like...which is different for him. Plus the kid is Will Smith's son, and he appears to be pretty darn good at acting. I will see it. Hopefully it will be as entertaining as it appears it will be.

They had to. It isn't plausible that it could happen here with the hate crime statues.

What's up with an eight year old fighting fifteen year olds though? The change in the main character's age is stupid and makes it more of a kids movie. And this girl from the Microsoft ads is no replacement for Elizabeth Shue.
Either way it looks horrible. Its going to suck worse than the Red Dawn remake.

Scientology ruined Will Smith.

This trailer makes me so mad. The original is the best. Ever.

That was a painful trailer to sit through. Is it really necessary for Will Smith to make his son a star? And is anyone disturbed by the fact that although they go to China and the kid is being taught by Jackie Chan, but the movie is still called "Karate" Kid? Karate != China.
