No idea which forum to put this in so please move as appropriate mods.

Does anyone know if/how/when Apple will release details of how to sell via the iBook store or will this be tied into major content creators only? Would be nice to see if they can help smaller publishers and independents here.

No one knows. If I were to guess, I'd expect it to work much like the iTunes Store, where only publishers can get in on it, but some small publisher will eventually come along who will publish anything to the store for a fee.

I have worked in publishing for many years and am still involved with a small independent children's publisher so I'm looking at this from a publishers angle. We are looking at the ibook store as a big opportunity for the smaller publisher but couldn't find any info on how to register with Apple.

Well, it doesn't publicly exist yet, does it? I wouldn't take that as a rejection so much as, well, it's an unreleased product.

Will Apple block other bookstore apps from the iPad as duplicating functionality?

I haven't been rejected yet, I couldn't find any info and wondered if anyone knew anything. I guess it's just wait and see at the moment.

Did you ask Apple about it it? I have an ADC account, and I’m pretty sure they’d respond to this sort of inquiry. It’s in their own interest to keep content producers such as yourself abreast of developments.

Yeah, it's going to take me forever to get used to this, as well.

Dollars to doughnuts competing bookstores are allowed — because there are already some for the iPhone, and shutting down competitors when it entered a new market would put Apple in an even worse position than Microsoft was when it bundled Internet Explorer to kill Netscape.
