[REQ] Info on iTunes Submissions Review Process.

I hear that it can take up to eight weeks for songs to show up on the iTunes store. Seems pretty long to me. Is it like the App Store, with some unfathomable review process, or why else should it take so long? Anyone know how this works? Cheers.

It varies depending on many factors. If you're an independent artist, it can be easier to submit to the store than if you're with a label. But if you're with a label, there are a ton of variables that get caught in the mix. 2 weeks seems to be the average time for unsigned artists.

You try getting a CD pressed and see how long that takes you.

With international distribution deals in place, mind you.
I hope you started negotiations around pre-production time if you're not tied to an established label.

Depending on the size of the order, about three weeks for an order of about 5-10K units. Just did a project for someone last month for 1000 units and we got it shipped to us in two weeks. So eight weeks for a digital copy IS a long time, considering you don't have to ship anything or 'press' multiple copies.

Now add negotiating international distribution deals and local production/shipping there.

Yes. Go for it.
There's no waiting, of course. That eight weeks will be spent working on your next album and not thinking about the current, right? Write, record, upload, write, record, upload, write, record, upload, write, record, upload. With possibly some boobies somewhere along the way. That's the way it goes.
