Miyazaki is only one of two filmmakers, whose works i adore consistently. (The other being P.T. Anderson).

Ponyo is his latest creation, and i'm still not entirely sure what exactly it means. I think it's a strange love story of sorts. The art is classic Miyazaki....beautiful. The musical score is by Joe Hisaishi, which is....once again, amazing.

What amazes me with the Miyazaki movies is how child-like his imagination is, yet how well he articulates it. It helps that the animation and art design are probably the best in the industry.

Enjoy!

Concidentially I have seen it yesterday with some friends, this movie made us feel like 5 year old children Absolutely amazing and cute scenes. (like the running on the waves) You should not see the dubbed versions, but the Japanese with subtitles.

I missed this in the theater, but love all his previous movies. Looking forward to watching this one.

It was his first truly "kids" movie since Totoro- which is good, in a way. It was nowhere near as intricate artistically as his previous films, which was kind of a disappointment. I've always looked forward to the gorgeous settings and backgrounds in his films, and this was pretty basic, but it still worked. The song over the end credits was even worse than the opening theme to Totoro- pure cheese, but it was fun and the kids sang along and have been singing it ever since.

It was good- but the first one I would not recommend to an adult audience in a while, and the first ever I'd say was not necessarily worth venturing to the cinema for. It would be just fine on a TV.

I saw it dubbed- as I've seen all his films except Totoro. I'm perfectly happy with the dubbing.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

Paco500,
I too thought the vibe was very similar to that of Totoro. When i first watched Totoro, i was kinda.... confused i guess. But when i watched it a second time, all the details(specifically in the animation and relationships between characters) really clicked. Personally i really like Totoro.

Comparisons with Spirited Away.... Spirited Away was darker(more serious) imo. the 'logic' was a bit more complex (meant for adults). As far as the art in Ponyo, i really thought it was very well done everything fit together really well imo, and i'd place it very close to Totoro in terms of detail. As far the song...it's 'catchy' like the Totoro song . That being said, Spirited Away is still my favorite Miyazaki film.

Cheers

I saw it in the theatre ages ago but it was good for sure. Strange and a major culture barrier but good.

Watched Totoro a couple weeks ago with my niece. Saw the subtitled version, and loved it. I haven't seen any of his other work, but loved Totoro. I was able to follow it really well, and thought the story and visuals and music were great.

I have nothing to offer as far as Ponyo since I haven't seen it, but I will put it on my list.
