It's been a long while since I did anything more than lurk, but had to share this one.

If you can be bothered, please read the following eBay Live Help Transcript and tell me on a scale of one to ten, how close I am to being an idiot. (With ten being an idiot of the highest order - you are not allowed to increase the score due to the fact I shouldn't have bothered staying on the chat for so long)

Please excuse any typos, I wasn't particularly bothered about spending even longer being precise.

The first part of the chat is missing due to a tech problem, but I raised this issue as an incidental question when my main issue had been dealt with.
It is to do with the fact that there is a help page stating, in my opinion, that gallery images are free even though I know this not to be the case.
I thought I was helping them by mentioning it.

Here is a link to the aforementioned help page
Using the free Gallery picture

Hello, thank you for waiting and welcome to Live Help. My name is Glen. If you're a registered member, may I start by having you confirm your User ID and first name?

4:23:37 PM ACST

•••Glen G•••.
Sure. I'll need a minute to review your previous chat. I'll be with you shortly.
4:24:22 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
Im hoping to finalise this by justreceiving a credit for the 30 gallery fees due to the implications of Using the free Gallery picture
4:24:39 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
and an assurance that the page will be removed or modified
4:24:50 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
I will then happily pay all future fees
4:25:36 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
If this can be agreed to then we can both go about the rest of our day (I have already wasted 2 hours on live help)
4:26:23 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
Thanks for waiting. I appreciate it.
4:26:28 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
I'd be glad to check what you can do on this.
4:26:33 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
May I have the item number so I can take a quick look at it?
4:31:35 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
sorry I was looking at something else while I waited
4:31:48 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
No problem.
4:31:57 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
These are the 30 items LINK REMOVED
4:33:29 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
Thanks.
4:34:19 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
Please know that if you use 'Gallery picture', you're charged for $0.59.
4:34:50 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
I know, but why does a freely available page state otherwise
4:35:31 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
I work in a camera store, there is a box of film with $9.95 on each packet. On the box it states 'Free Film'
4:35:39 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
What do you think is the price
4:35:53 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
You can't advertise something as free and then charge for it
4:36:23 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
So, as I said "Im hoping to finalise this by justreceiving a credit for the 30 gallery fees due to the implications of http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/gallery.html"
4:38:59 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
The link you provided doesn't state that the gallery picture fee is free though.
4:41:03 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
"Adding a FREE Gallery picture to your listing

When buyers browse categories or search for items, they see items with Gallery pictures directly in search results. Your free Gallery picture increases your chances of a successful sale. Items with a Gallery picture sell for an average of 14% more than those without one.

Include at least one picture in your listing. The first picture becomes YOUR FREE GALLERY PICTURE."
4:41:29 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
Sorry about the caps, this chat doesn't seem to support bold text
4:42:12 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
I've included at least one picture in my listing, how else should I read this paragaph?
4:43:27 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
In case it wasn't clear the text between quotation marks was copy and pasted from Using the free Gallery picture
4:46:02 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
Using the free Gallery picture
contains a link to
Adding pictures to your listing
which states "You can include one free picture with each listing. "

So
"You can include one free picture with each listing"
"Include at least one picture in your listing. The first picture becomes YOUR FREE GALLERY PICTURE."
4:47:04 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
It doesn't say that the gallery fee is free though.
4:47:14 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
It's just the picture not the fee at all.
4:47:36 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
then in that paragraph what does the use of the word Free mean, because I am very confused
4:49:08 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
It simply means that the first picture you upload in the listing will be your gallery picture at the same time.
4:49:31 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
?
4:51:05 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
As stated "The first picture becomes YOUR FREE GALLERY PICTURE".
4:51:31 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
so what meaning does the word free have in this instance
4:52:04 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
It says that "free gallery picture" not "free gallery picture fee".
4:52:49 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
Free in the sense that you don't need to upload a new photo you can use as gallery picture as your first photo will serve as one.
4:53:33 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
if it said 'free gallery picture fee', that would be improper english implying that I would receive said fee or that fee was some sort of object
4:53:44 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
that's nonsense
4:54:34 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
I understand that they are not actually free, as i have previously stated, but any English Professor would tell you that this page states otherwise
4:57:05 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
We do apologise for how the text is stated on the link.
4:57:15 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
Thankyou
4:59:05 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
The statement on the link doesn't refer to the fee but rather to the picture only.
4:59:15 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
Am I clear at that?
4:59:24 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
You are clear, the page is not
5:00:21 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
In my film example earlier it is like me stating 'No, 'free' as in you can take photos of whatever you like, not free as in free'
5:01:18 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
Anyway, I have wasted enough of my day, and hopefully enough of yours since it doesn't look like I will receive a credit
5:02:05 PM ACST
•••Sunseeker•••
Good day.
5:02:45 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.
I understand how you feel about this and it's my pleasure to explain this to you.
5:02:50 PM ACST
•••Glen G•••.

You were not dealing with a human, but with some AI that isn't programmed to give credits.
Shame on you for not figuring it out faster

Reminds me of Lionel Hutz.
Marge: it says "Works on contingency. No money down."
Hutz; There's some punctuation mIssing.
"Works on contingency? No. Money down!"

I would have no idea what you were talking about if I hadn't caught that episode a couple of nights ago.

Bart: So you don't work on a contingency basis?
Hutz: No! Money down! Oops, I shouldn't have the Bar Association logo here either.

What exactly is a "gallery" picture, and what exactly did you upload?

"Specific knowledge on a topic usually demonstrates in-depth knowledge."
