Would anybody be surprised if this kind of promotion would follow the iPod Touch deal from years past?

I don't see why it'd only be for a Mac Pro.

Buy a MBP, get an iPad for free ?

No way. That would amount to up to 50% rebate.

Probably more like "get $100 off."

I could see Apple doing it since historically the back to school promo ends a couple weeks before the new MBP models come out.

They only do it if they actually have stock to move.

Which they don't. Not anymore.

I think they were planning on releasing new books about four weeks ago.

No way. Taking the iPad price into consideration, Apple has never given anything close to a 50% rebate.

The iPod or iPod Touch rebates were the equivalent of about 20%.

I'm not saying they WILL do it. I was just saying that a company like Apple, that has multiple billions of dollars in the bank, COULD do something like it.

Personally though, I don't think Apple will even do the touch deal this year.

I can totally imagine that the Touch isn't selling much these days, so they could easily use it in a back to school promotion.

In the past they actually gave you a $250 rebate good toward any of their iPods.

All they would have to do is allow you to apply it to an iPad.

Buy a Mac, get an iPod Touch for Free or an iPad for half price.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I can only imagine that Apple wants to move their Mac Pro units, all of which are over 13 months old.

Because the Mac Pro is a margin-cow and it's nearing EOL anyways.

So then it sounds like a good promo for creative professionals. "Order a MacPro with Adobe CS5 and Final Cut Suite, and get a free iPad."

Students buy laptops.
