Today the wife and I planted broccoli, onions, potatoes, sweet peppers, corn, squash, beans and brussels sprouts (not my idea, I hate brussels sprouts). My son planted watermelon and my daughter planted flowers. Last weekend we planted two grape vines, a couple strawberry plants and a raspberry bush.

Still to plant: carrots and tomatoes.

Brussel sprouts:

Peel, cut an X into the stem.
Parboil for 5 minutes.
Dice good bacon, gently fry to release the fat.
Add sprouts, cover.
Shake every five minutes or so.

Wait for sprouts to caramelize on one side and the bacon to crisp up.

Yumminess.

Bacon makes everything better. Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try when they are ready.

We're tilling the garden tomorrow and planting cucumbers, cantaloupe, sugar snap peas, broccoli, pumpkins, and basil. We also are trying to get a strawberry patch going.

I never liked Brussels Sprouts until I moved to the UK- and it was the Bacon recepie (or a variation on the theme) that did it. Nummy.

Not actually planted any thing yet, but we got three hens last week and they have started producing eggs for us. We do need to get some stuff in the ground.
