2010 Philadelphia Phillies Fan Tasered (VIDEO)
By Dink Bassman on May 4, 2010
Phillies Fan Tasered During Baseball Game
Last night, one Philadelphia Phillies fan’s night went from real exciting to real painful in only a couple seconds.
The Phillies fan, a 17 year old boy, jumped over the wall onto the field during a baseball game, and proceeded to run around the outfield. He was being chased by staff, players, and police. When he refused to stop, however, a police officer shot the Phillies fan with his taser.
This event has caused mixed emotions among fans and onlookers. Many people maintain that the fan should not have been on the field, and should have stopped for police, and therefor deserved to be tasered. Meanwhile, others say that he was only 17, and was completely surrounded, and that using a taser was uncalled for and too aggressive.
The police officer that tasered the Phillies fan is currently being investigated to determine whether or not he used excessive force.
The unnamed 17 year old Phillies fan will face charges for the incident.

I'm all in favor of tasering Phillies fans.

I kind of thing tasers should be used as a means of self defense or to protect others. This kid wasn't a threat to anybody or anything, he was just being stupid.

I think the guards need to be in better shape, then they wouldn't need to taser him.

I think Art Bell would approve the Tasering of this fan.

Have any of you guys been tasered? I'd imagine it would hurt... I sometimes have bad dreams about my penis being tasered.

Yeah. What happened to the days when a couple cops could stop an un-armed guy without needing to use a weapon? What happened to the days of a couple cops just tackling someone?

Kid was an idiot but didn't do anything to threaten anybody. A cuff across the ear, for sure, but a taser? Come on.

Good move. He could potentially suffer worse injuries if he was tackled by a huge security guard - broken bones, concussion, etc. Big deal, he got tased. Its not going to injure him, it just stops him in his tracks. Its not like they unloaded a pistol shot to his knee or something. I think this sends a message to other retarded fans not to try stupid stunts like this anymore.
These sort of antics are disruptive and disrespectful to the game, the players, and all of the other fans. Sure, the kid ultimately was harmless, but you never KNOW what someone is going to try to do, what they might have in their pockets, etc. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility for some crazed, stalkerish fan to go after a player with a pocket knife or something like that (which could easily be snuck into the ballpark).
Not only does this jeopardize the safety of the players but its also criminal trespassing. They chased the guy around and asked him several times to stop and he didn't. What happens when someone gets pulled over, gets out of the car, is told to stay put, and starts running around, even if they appear to be un-armed? This guy broke a law by running onto the field and ultimately resisted arrest. I understand its an extreme comparison, but where do you draw the line? I suppose the day that someone actually makes it on the field and hurts one of the players, coaches, officials, or guards, then it'll seem ok to use this type of force to prevent it from happening again.
