Vintage Ads: What Were They (We) Thinking?

Can't quite figure this one out. She won't give him postage for a letter so he wants to kill her?

She knows how to use the postage meter, and he doesn't.

The Pitney-Bowes postage meter is so easy for him to use, that he can finally acquiesce to his murderous impulses and kill his now-useless secretary.

Because the woman forget to buy stamps.

But with pitney-bowes, you don't have to worry about stamps.

Why kill the woman for being forgetful when you can just print out the meter stamp right onto your envelope.

I think it would depend on his religion and country.

Pitney Bowes machines are so easy to use, even a woman can figure them out. But this gives them power in the office, so the blokes (who're too stupid to work out how to use the machine) become frustrated when she withholds services.

Early women's lib? Maybe?

Yes, what a shame this ad that makes no discernible sense wouldn't make it in today's world.

There's another ad with the lines something like, "Don't kill women with work, let electricity do it!"

Was number 14 meant as an Easter egg, or did someone not do the research?

#14 - the top quote is from a James Blish novel. Since they were written in the 1950's, the ad poster might be legit. The bottom graviton text I don't recognize.

The device is a pipe threader.

Idiots.
They got it wrong. The computer is sitting in front of the typewriter thingie. She's probably a prototype before they finalized Number Six's design. And who knows, she may try to take over the world.

1953: Husband furious because you've missed the post? The Pitney-Bowes Postage Meter prints the stamp and seals the envelope all in one go.

The device pictured is apparently a pipe threading device. It's made by a well known company and looks like a legitimate product. Which means someone doctored the original ad with the science fiction text.

Is that a Varga girl in that picture?

You do realize the image comes from The Onion, right? Does that reduce the confusion?
