Let's say that a relative or a close friend can't find a job and their relatives don't want to simply give handouts for a possibly very long time.
The concept of these relatives rewarding this out-of-luck relative for participating in volunteering activities. Would there be any gotchas that would make this idea problematic? Are there any volunteering activities more likely to lift someones morale? Forming useful job networking?
Now for the optional requirements, but nice to have: not overtly leftist or rightist activities, having a way to monitor hours volunteered.
What would be a nice way of getting more family members involved? Obviously, the level of monetary reward must be less than his former professional pay, but how low a budget should be aimed to. Has anybody implemented something like this?
I am part of a charity here in Canada that encourages people to go into volunteering. The numbers are crystal clear on this one, volunteering is a very good thing if you're happen to be out of work. It builds morale and connections, both important in any job search.
I'm sure there are plenty of worthy local groups, but failing that, you should look at Salvation Army, Goodwill, and/or Habitat for Humanity. Red Cross, too, but they're hinky depending on the local leadership.
